  11. Sullivan designed some of the most famous early skyscrapers in Chicago, including the department store now known as Carson, Pirie, Scott and Co. His elegant ornamentation still frames the store‚Äôs show windows on State Street and once filled the inside of the store. This cast-iron medallion decorated one of the grilles in the open elevator cages that carried customers from floor to floor. Four flat shield shapes radiate from a central cross in the medallion design. How many circles can you find? Some people call the design a snowflake. Do you agree?
